The "Fair Trade for All" Teaching Resource has been developed by the FTAANZ to illustrate to students the impact of world trade, not only on the lives of consumers, but also on the lives of producers in poor countries. The Resource uses the examples of the cocoa and coffee trades to illustrate that the benefits of trade are not being fairly distributed. It uses easy activities to demonstrate to students that they have the power as consumers to influence international trade and make a positive difference to the lives of those producers.

This Resource is divided into five separate modules. Each module builds on the knowledge from the previous modules, so should be used in the order presented.

Module 1 introduces the students to international trade and encourages students to think about the impact of trade on their lives.

Modules 2 & 3 use the cocoa and coffee trades to illustrate the impact of world trade on the lives of producers in poor countries. These two modules are interchangeable - either one or both of the modules can be used.

Module 4 introduces the students to fair trade and uses the learnings from modules 2 & 3 to illustrate the benefits of fair trade.

Module 5 encourages students to think about how they as consumers and global citizens can take action.

Each module starts with an introduction designed to familiarize the teacher with the key issues. For more detailed information, there is a list of other useful resources on page 26. The introductions are followed by instructions for the student activities. Many of the activities require student handouts. The master copies for all handouts are at the back of this Resource.
