My Shout!

Picture

What is MyShout?

A Fair Trade awareness campaign in Australia being run by Fairly Educated and the Fair Trade Association. It will be held in Anti-Poverty Week, 13-19 October 2013.

Aims of MyShout:

MyShout aims to increase awareness for Fair Trade coffee by encouraging university student and staff groups to work with their local Fair Trade café’s to run a fun and engaging event in Anti-Poverty week.

How MyShout will work:

There are three main options for how this event could take form. In each of these options, student and staff groups would participate in and promote the event. Student and staff groups could also engage other like-mind organisations to participate for maximum impact.  Fairly Educated will work with groups to assist them in the process.

1.     Event type one: Pay Fair Trade Forward (PFTF):

Under the PFTF option participating café’s would offer their customers the option of paying for a cup of Fair Trade coffee for the person behind them in the queue. When this person comes to the counter they would be told a Fair Trade coffee has already been paid for them. They would then be asked if they would like to accept it and if they would like to Pay Fair Trade Forward too.

2.     Event type two: Suspended Coffees

Under the Suspended Coffees option participating café’s would offer their customers the option of paying for a cup of Fair Trade coffee for a less fortunate individual, such as a homeless person.

This event form is based on other Suspended Coffee initiatives occurring internationally: http://www.suspendedcoffee.com.au/

3.     Event type three: Donations to domestic anti-poverty organisations

Under the Donations option, participating café’s would offer their customers a chance to make a donation to an organisation that supports less fortunate individuals in Australia, such as Street Smart Australia: http://www.streetsmartaustralia.org/

How can I get involved in MyShout if I am:

A university student and/or staff group?

Please talk to your local Fair Trade café and invite them to participate in MyShout. Discuss with the café how your university group would be able to work with them to use the event to promote Fair Trade, the café and your group on campus.

Please also let Fairly Educated know that you are keen to participate and how we can assist you.

A Fair Trade café?

Please contact Fairly Educated to let us know you would like to participate and we will work to put you in touch with a university group close to you.

A related domestic anti-poverty not-for-profit?

Please contact Fairly Educated to discuss how your organisation would like to be involved. We may be able to put you in touch with a university group in your area to work on the event together.

A related overseas anti-poverty not-for-profit?

We would love to get the word out about MyShout to as many people as possible before Anti-Poverty week so the events that are run can have a maximum impact.

Involvement from your organisation could range from a tweet, to having one of your local action groups work with a university group to run an event. Please contact Fairly Educated to discuss how your organisation would like to be involved.
