New Resources!

A new suite of classroom resources are available to download with detailed lesson plans and catchy student hand outs. 

Teacher Introduction: 4 page introduction into the history of fair trade and the uniqueness of the international Fairtrade system.

Cocoa: This pack contains a teacher introduction into the cocoa trade followed by detailed lesson plans and student resources.  Throughout this unit, students learn about the cocoa industry then investigate various chocolate companies.  It links to the Social Studies National Curriculum Level 3 and relevant Key Competencies and Values. 

Coffee: This pack contains 3 different options that each focus on a different English language skill – creative writing, report writing, and speaking and listening through debate.  Each option clearly outlines lesson-by-lesson achievement objectives linked to the English National Curriculum Level 4 and Key Competencies.  Students gain a thorough understanding of the coffee industry and the Fairtrade system. 

Bananas: An interactive unit exploring the banana industry culminating in a student investigation into their local banana market.  The pack contains a teacher introduction followed by detailed lesson plans and student resources.  Achievement Objectives link to both Social Studies and Mathematics National Curriculum Level 4.  This unit could be used as a base for Mathematics and Statistics Achievement Standard 2.8: Design a Questionnaire and 2.11: Evaluate a statistically based report.

Taking a Journey Into Trade: A fun introduction to trade for primary school students.

Follow Aroha as she learns what trade is, where the ingredients in her chocolate bar come from and what she can do to help make trade fair. A student friendly, interactive booklet with accompanying powerpoint presentation.  Curriculum links with Social Studies Level 1 and 2, English Level 1 and 2 and the Key Competencies. (NZ only) 

Fair Trade For All: An intermediate level resource made up of six modules that cover international trade, fair trade products and the Fairtrade Label.  

These modules can be used individually or as a complete unit with curriculum links to (AU) VELS three strands at Level 4 and (NZ) Social Studies Level 2 and 3 and the Key Competencies. 

Watch It DVD: many of the lessons require showing a short film from the Watch It DVD.  Please note this DVD is no longer available and we are working towards creating an updated resources DVD.

Fairtrade Quiz: use this as an introduction to your unit, mid-way through to assess their learning or just as a fun activity.
