Encourage your MP!

Encourage an MP to make the pledge to be Fair Trade!

If they’re already a Fair Trade MP, don’t forget to add a big “thanks!” for already supporting vulnerable producers in developing countries, and further encourage them to support their parliamentary colleagues.

Below, you can send a letter to an MP. We have included some suggested text you might want to put into your message to your MP. However remember to change the respective details in bold by adding their name, and signing off with your name. Also, feel free to add whatever message you would like!

During Fair Trade Fortnight, we will be collating these letters to pass on to respective MPs to make the pledge to be Fair! Following FTF, we will be supporting MPs to take up their pledge and turn it into reality. To become a Fair Trade Workplace in their Parliamentary and local offices over the following months before the September election.

SUGGESTED TEXT

Dear (name of MP),

The benefits of international trade are not shared fairly by everyone in the world. Small producers have limited access to market and price information. As a result, they are often dependent on middlemen and receive smaller returns for their work. Many plantation and factory workers endure low pay, unsafe working environments and poor living conditions.

Fair Trade promotes trade equality and justice. From producer through to consumer -- it is about ensuring the choices we make have a positive impact on our lives, the lives of others and the environment.

Becoming a Fair Trade Workplace is easy.
To do so means that whenever you purchase goods like tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas, gifts or homewares, that you choose Fair Trade Items and celebrate by telling others about it.

By pledging your parliamentary and local offices to become a Fair Trade Workplace, you are making a big step to assist the lives of small, disadvantaged producers.

Yours Sincerely,
(Your Name)
