What is Hooked? Hooked is a student based, Not-For-Profit organisation. We operate as a trans-Tasman network advocating for Fair Trade ( link to the Fair Trade Page) products, policies and principles. The core objective of Hooked is to raise awareness of and increase demand in educational institutions and the wider community for global economic justice. This is primarily done through the ongoing promotion of and campaign for Fairtrade Certified products such as coffee, tea and chocolate. Hooked is endorsed and supported by Oxfam Australia Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand (FTAANZ). We seek to create a unified and well-resourced student network, through both coordinating and assisting existing groups and aiding in the formation of new ones. Hooked is helping to leverage the student demand for Fairtrade products in negotiations with catering companies and cafes. Through our website and campaigning materials, such as T-shirts, information guides, DVDs and postcards, we seek to serve as an information resource for fair trade advocates. Our Core Values - Seek justice- have an earnest hunger for fairness and equality - Stop doing wrong- commit to being ethical consumers - Learn to do good- actively educate ourselves in truth - Denounce the oppressor- denounce institutions, corporations and individuals which violate human rights - Defend the powerless- apply time, energy and money on fighting injustice - Plead for the unheard- be a voice for the poor, powerless and oppressed

International development forum & film night

We have some exciting news regarding the International Development Forum and we need you to book as soon as possible!

On the night we will have an exclusive pre-screening of the "Scared Sacred" documentary by award winning director Velcrow Ripper (you're right, that couldn't possibly be a real name). Velcrow is confirmed to be present on the night and will give a Q&A session about his documentary after the movie, as if there aren't already enough good reasons to attend (listed below!).

The only thing is, we need to confirm we have the numbers attending to make it worth his while! We need you to book or let us know that you are interested by Wednesday July 5th.

Other good reasons to attend:

  • Presentations from Dr Matthew Clarke (RMIT) and Daniel Almagor (Engineers Without Borders)
  • Opportunity to network with representatives from NGOs including Oxfam, Australian Volunteers International (AVI), Engineers Without Borders (EWB), Ethika and many others. This is a good networking opportunity for future jobs and getting an understanding of the industry!
  • Networking with other International Development Students from universities around Melbourne. Ever noticed what amazing things all the other students out there are doing?
